The Washington Football Team impressed in their Week 12 win over the Dallas Cowboys, but more importantly they have moved into first place in the NFC East. The division is a dumpster fire, and a 4-7 record is now the best it has to offer!
Entering Thanksgiving, the Philadelphia Eagles led the division at 3-6-1, followed by the Cowboys, Washington, and New York Giants all at 3-7. Washington beat Dallas on Thanksgiving, Philadelphia hosts the Seahawks on Monday Night Football, and the Giants travel to face the Bengals on Sunday.
Dallas is clearly a bad team, but every win is critical. Washington was holding a tenuous lead for much of the game before Antonio Gibson and Montez Sweat helped them blow it open. Washington 41-16 and holds a critical tiebreaker over Dallas courtesy of a season sweep.
Washington holds a tiebreaker edge over the Eagles for the time being with a head-to-head win, but given Philly’s tie against Cincinnati earlier this year, the tiebreaker likely won’t matter. The Giants have the real edge here, with a season sweep of Washington. If the Giants beat the Bengals on Sunday, they move into a tie with Washington and will have the lead based on the tiebreaker. In that case, if the Eagles win on Monday, Philly would be in first place, while if the Eagles lost, New York would be in first place.
Four wins through 12 weeks for a division lead!
