Colts activating DeForest Buckner off Covid-19 IR list for Week 13

Friday Week 13 update: The Colts are activating Buckner off the Covid-19 injured reserve list, according to multiple reports. He will be eligible to play in Week 13 against the Texans.

Friday update: Buckner has tested positive as opposed to being a close contact, so he is out for Sunday, per Ian Rapoport.

The Indianapolis Colts placed DeForest Buckner on the Covid-19 injured reserve list Wednesday afternoon, and now the wait begins to see if he can play by Sunday. A player can go on the list if they test positive or if they are a high risk close contact of a person who tested positive.

If a player goes on the list due to their own positive test, they must stay on IR for at least ten days. If it is due to a high risk close contact, they must stay on for five days. The high risk close contact protocol is based on when their last contact was. The Colts face the Tennessee Titans in four days, so we await further news before knowing if Buckner will play.

If he sits out Sunday, that’s a huge blow to the Colts defensive front. He’s one of the best defensive tackles in the game and as they prepare to face Derrick Henry and the Titans in Week 12, this will be something to track the rest of the week.
