Friday update: 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said the team will activate Raheem Mostert from injured reserve on Saturday, according to Matt Maiocco. Shanahan said Mostert would be listed as questionable, but this move suggests there’s a good chance he will be active, while Jeff Wilson will remain on IR.
The San Francisco 49ers had a bye in Week 11, and they could welcome back some key components as soon as Week 12. The team announced they have opened the IR practice windows for running backs Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson. They are not guaranteed to play this week against the Los Angeles Rams, but they will be eligible if activated off IR by 4 p.m. ET on Saturday.
Mostert has been sidelined since suffering an ankle injury in Week 6. Wilson has been sidelined since suffering his own ankle injury in Week 7. Before the team’s bye, head coach Kyle Shanahan said he hoped both Mostert and Tevin Coleman (knee injury) could return in Week 12.
The 49ers were relying on Jerick McKinnon and JaMycal Hasty, but placed Hasty on IR after he broke his collarbone prior to the bye. If Mostert and Coleman are both ready to go this weekend, Wilson would be a decent bet to stay on IR for at least one more week. This is turning into a crowded backfield, but Mostert should return to the top spot once activated. Coleman would cut into his ceiling, but Mostert would still be a strong weekly start.
