Damiere Byrd: Early waiver wire option in Week 12

Damiere Byrd stood out in Sunday’s contest as a potential early waiver wire option in Week 12.

Jakobi Meyers has been the New England Patriots’ star wideout in recent weeks but was outshined by Damiere Byrd in Week 11 against the Houston Texans. Cam Newton’s former Carolina Panthers teammate proved that he can still be a threat and could be worth a Week 12 waiver wire pickup in deeper season-long fantasy football leagues.

Byrd has caught at least five passes in each of his last two games and exploded with six receptions for 132 yards and a score on Sunday. While it’s not likely that he’ll post another stat line like that soon he leads the Patriots in targets (41) and has two fewer receptions than Meyers. Newton has targeted Byrd seven or more times in four different games this year and his latest performance could earn him more opportunities in the near future. Byrd is only rostered in 0.9 percent of ESPN leagues and is worth a look if you’re really struggling at wide receiver.
