At 4-5, the Detroit Lions have little margin for error as they try to fight their way back into the NFC wild-card race. Their hopes nearly took another hit a week ago when the Washington Football Team fell just one score short of the upset.
With another NFC opponent, the Carolina Panthers, on tap for Sunday, the Lions will again look to their key offensive personnel to carry the team to victory, especially with star wideout Kenny Golladay already ruled out with a hip injury and quarterback Matthew Stafford limited with a thumb injury on his throwing hand.
Fantasy Football analysis: Lions WRs
With Golladay on the shelf last week, Marvin Jones stepped up and delivered one of his best performances of the season. The veteran wideout caught eight of his 10 targets for 96 yards and a score, leading all Lions receivers. Stafford, assuming he plays, will again look in Jones’ direction often. As the Panthers defense has allowed nearly a touchdown a game to wideouts, Jones appears well-positioned for a strong follow-up performance.
Meanwhile, Marvin Hall entered last week’s game as a high-ceiling, extremely low-floor option for desperate fantasy managers. He only received three targets, but he turned those into two catches for 61 yards and a score. Hall has the same lottery-ticket outlook against Carolina, so only start him if you need to prioritize upside.
As for Jamal Agnew, the Lions fed him seven targets a week ago, though he only turned those into 38 receiving yards. Perhaps his role will increase if Golladay continues to miss time. However, until he carves out a niche in Detroit, he remains unstartable in fantasy.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Start Jones as a WR3 or FLEX.
Sit Hall and Agnew.
