Report: Jeff Teague signs one-year deal with Celtics

Jeff Teague ended the 2019-20 season with the Atlanta Hawks after being traded by the Minnesota Timberwolves but has elected to sign a one-year deal with the Boston Celtics ahead of the 2020-21 season. The veteran guard has been flying under the radar but can still contribute to winning basketball.

Earlier on Saturday, Marc Berman of the New York Post reported that the Knicks had Teague on their radar. However, the Knicks opted to bring back Elfrid Payton on a one-year deal.

Teague averaged 13.2 points and 6.1 assists per contest last season before being traded to Atlanta, where he faded playing behind an All-Star Talent in Trae Young. Teague can give the Celtics solid playmaking off the bench and reliable shooting from beyond the arc and at the charity stripe. He might not be an All-Star anymore but he can be an impactful role player.

Teague will now be the primary backup for All-star point Kemba Walker as Brad Wanamaker signed a deal with the Golden State Warriors. As previously mentioned, the veteran Teague should fit right in with how the Celtics’ on the offensive side of the ball. Last season, he shot 43.6 percent from the field and 36.8-percent from three-point range. Celtics head coach Brad Stevens is hoping that Teague can return to his early 2019-20 form with the T’Wolves and give them another viable scoring option off of the bench.
