The 7-1 Clemson Tigers are looking to keep its College Football Playoff hopes alive on Saturday afternoon down in Tallahassee against the 2-6 Florida State Seminoles.
The Tigers will surely be looking to show the nation that its still the dominant force they’ve come to expect over the last few seasons. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence will be back after missing the last two games because of COVID-19 protocols. The Tigers are ranked 4th in SP+ as a team and are in the top 10 both offensively and defensively using the same metric. They’ll be taking on an FSU team that gives up a lot of points, more than 36 per game. Lawrence might be a tad rusty after missing two games and having an idle week thrown in there. But it shouldn’t matter, as he’s arguably the best signal-caller in the nation. Expect a heavy dose of running back Travis Etienne to start the game as Lawrence gets comfortable. He should tear up a Seminole defense that allows nearly 200 yards rushing each week.
Florida State hasn’t scored more than 22 points in the last month, they’ll probably need to score double that if they want to have a chance against Clemson. The Tigers defense is only allowing 19.5 points per game and have had some time to get healthy after missing some key players over the last few weeks. Quarterback Jordan Travis is leading the team in passing and rushing, so that doesn’t necessarily bode well going up against a top 10 defense, especially when its fighting for its national title hopes.
