Report: Jerami Grant agrees to three-year deal with Pistons

Nobody really knows what the Pistons are doing anymore in free agency on Friday night.

Free agent PF Jerami Grant has agreed to a three-year, $60 million deal with the Detroit Pistons, per Shams Charania of The Athletic. The Pistons have been arguably the most active team in free agency on Friday night, which hasn’t benefitted them much. Somebody needs to tell them to stand down. Take the phone away from Troy Weaver, please!

This is the fourth forward the Pistons have agreed to deals with on Friday night. The list includes C Mason Plumlee, F Josh Jackson and PF Jahlil Okafor. None of these moves have been particularly good and they all seem to just be adding depth at forward. Instead of prioritizing UFA PF Christian Wood, the Pistons gave up on signing him and have brought in a bunch of stop gaps. This could be in an attempt to just tank the next couple seasons while developing whatever talent the team has.

Update: Wood has signed with the Rockets on a deal that is worth about $20 million less than Grant’s. I’m trying to wrap my head around this and just can’t. Welp, moving along ...
