Cam Akers: Early waiver wire option in Week 9

Cam Akers emerges from Sunday’s contest as a potential early waiver wire option in Week 9 following a thigh injury to teammate Darrell Henderson.

Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers could get a lot more involved in his team’s offense in Week 10 when the Rams return from a bye week. Darrell Henderson Jr. has held the starting job for a few weeks but exited Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins with a thigh injury and did not return. If he misses time there will be room for a competition between Akers and Malcolm Brown.

Akers rushed for 35 yards on nine carries and caught a 19-yard pass against Miami and reached 10 touches for the first time since Week 1, when he racked up 14 carries for 39 yards. The Rams are averaging more than 30 rushing attempts per game so Akers should get a significant boost in touches should without Henderson in the mix. Akers is only rostered in 34.5 percent of ESPN leagues and was dropped from a ton of rosters after Week 7. If Henderson isn’t good to go after the Rams’ bye week you should take a long look at Akers.
