Saturday update: The Bengals have placed Mixon on injured reserve, which means he will have to miss at least three more games.
Friday PM update: The Bengals officially ruled out Joe Mixon for Week 11.
Friday update: Mixon was not at practice on Friday, per Ben Baby. He hasn’t practiced at all this week, so don’t expect him out there on Sunday against Washington.
Thursday update: Mixon wasn’t at the start of practice on Thursday, per Ben Baby. We can safely assume that he will be out again this week and Gio Bernard will take over the lead role.
Wednesday update: Mixon was a “did not practice” on the injury report for Wednesday. It appears like we are on track for another Giovani Bernard start this week when the Bengals face the Washington Football Team.
The Joe Mixon foot injury saga continues to drag along heading into Week 11. Head coach Zac Taylor told the media Mixon is day-to-day and will see how the week goes to determine how much practice time he’ll get, per Ben Baby.
This all seems reminiscent of the A.J. Green saga last year in which an ankle injury kept him sidelined all year, but we were getting reports about how he might finally return. Mixon injured his foot in Week 6 and has been sidelined ever since.
Gio Bernard remains the starter for the time being, but Samaje Perine has gained a significant complementary role. Last week, Bernard had 8 rushes and 4 receptions on 7 targets, while Perine had 7 rushes and 1 reception on 1 target. The week prior to the bye, Bernard had 18 total touches to Perine’s 11. Bernard is the guy, particularly in PPR leagues, but he’s losing valuable touches to Perine.
