How Jets can be eliminated from playoff contention in Week 11

The New York Jets have a legitimate chance at going 0-16 this season, so it should surprise nobody that they are probably going to be the first team eliminated from playoff contention. It will happen sooner than later, and it could very well happen by the close of Week 11.

Noted NFL tiebreaker enthusiast Joe Ferreira provides insight on who has a chance to be eliminated and who has a chance to clinch a playoff berth as the NFL season progresses. We don’t have any playoff clinching scenarios in Week 11, but we do have a playoff elimination scenario for the Jets.

A Jets loss to the Chargers is not exactly a tall order. Looking at the list of potential needed wins, it’s not quite a walk in the park if we look at DraftKings Sportsbook odds.

Dolphins @ Broncos: The Dolphins are a 3.5-point favorite, but a road game for a rookie quarterback is tough. Add in dealing with the thin air of Denver, and while the Broncos are struggling, this is no sure thing.

Colts vs. Packers: The Colts are a 2.5-point favorite at home. The Colts defense could be the difference as their run D has been solid. Green Bay is expected to have Allen Lazard back, which would be a boost for Aaron Rodgers and the passing game.

Patriots @ Texans: New England is a 2.5-point favorite and at this point is tough to figure out. They look like garbage one week, then beat the Ravens the next week.

Browns vs. Eagles and Ravens vs. Titans: Cleveland is a field goal favorite and Baltimore is a 6.5-point favorite. The Ravens-Titans game is the more difficult to predict, but playing Tennessee at home is a plus.

At least one of these scenarios is a good bet to hit this weekend. I’d say Dolphins over Broncos and the Browns-Eagles/Ravens-Titans scenarios are my two most likely. Either way, it would not be remotely surprising to see the Jets eliminated from the playoffs before the weekend is out.
