The Boston Celtics had the 26th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and selected Oregon G Payton Pritchard on Wednesday night virtually from ESPN’s headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut. They’ve continued to stockpile draft picks over the years and 2020 is no different. The Celtics already have one selection in the 2020 draft at No. 14 overall. They used that pick to select Aaron Nesmith.

Nesmith and Pritchard could position themselves to contribute early on in the upcoming season. Let’s take a look at how the Oregon product fits in with the Celtics’ abundance of young talent.

First-Round Pick Analysis

Pritchard has his work cut out for him, as Boston is loaded with talent at point guard. Kemba Walker is an All-Star and Brad Wanamaker proved to be a viable backup during last year’s playoffs. Marcus Smart might not handle the ball a ton but will get a healthy helping of backcourt minutes because of his defense. Pritchard will also have to compete with Carsen Edwards, Tremont Waters, and Javonte Smart, so he’ll likely be an afterthought when it comes to the guard rotation. He should have little to no fantasy value in year one.
