Friday update: Stafford is expected to start against the Panthers this week, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. Stafford has been able to practice the last two days and so far, so good for his status this week. He will likely be without D’Andre Swift, Danny Amendola and Kenny Golladay, which is a tough break for his fantasy prospects.
Thursday update: Stafford made his Week 11 practice return on Thursday and was listed as limited, according to Chris Burke. He is trending in the right direction, but his status remains uncertain for Sunday.
Wednesday update: Stafford attended practice but is, “doing absolutely nothing,” per Kyle Meinke. He reportedly didn’t even stretch and has a “small black supportive wrap thing on the thumb of his throwing hand.”
Tuesday update: Stafford is dealing with a partial ligament tear in the thumb on his throwing hand, per Tom Pelissero. He’s expected to play, but they’ll see how he looks in practice starting Wednesday.
The Detroit Lions won a wild one over the Washington Football Team in Week 10, and may have also survived a bit of a scare. Quarterback Matthew Stafford injured his thumb during the game, and while he finished it out, he had x-rays after the game.
The x-rays came back negative and he will have some more tests to make sure there is no structural damage, per Ian Rapoport. The team is optimistic about his chances, but we’ll find out more when they return to practice on Wednesday.
Sunday was not pretty for Detroit. They blew a 24-3 lead and looked like they were headed to overtime after Dustin Hopkins kicked a game-tying field goal with 16 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Instead, Detroit managed to stun Washington with a 59-yard field goal as time expired. Stafford picked up 19 yards on two passes and another 15 on a roughing the passer penalty. It was a truly stunning finish.
The Lions travel to face a 3-7 Carolina Panthers squad in Week 11 and need a win to avoid falling further back in the wild card race. Having Stafford will be critical to that.
