The 2020 NBA Draft is fast approaching on Wednesday, November 18th virtually at ESPN’s headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut. With less than two weeks to go, DraftKings Sportsbook has added plenty of interesting player props to choose from for the draft. Among those tasty selections is specific player draft position. Four of the top prospects are listed with Over/Under’s for where each will be selected in the 2020 draft. LaMelo Ball, Anthony Edwards, James Wiseman and Obi Toppin. We’ll be taking a look at each of the players props and whether or not they are appealing bets to consider.
2020 NBA Draft player position prop: Obi Toppin
Over 4.5: -152
Under 4.5: +125
This is really the only one of these props where I don’t like the plus-odds. Toppin is a fine prospect but he doesn’t really blow you away in many areas. I was really high on him heading into the NCAA Tournament and before the pandemic. Toppin likely would have gotten some help (or hurt) from going through the tourney as the best player on a 1-seed in the Dayton Flyers. In a weak draft class, I can see the top 4 teams going with prospects with higher ceilings than Toppin. The Flyers product could sneak up on people and blossom into a great player. The odds are a bit against him, though.
My thinking is the top 3 will likely be Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball and James Wiseman in no particular order. So Toppin would need to go No. 4 to the Bulls. That’s feasible. Chicago needs depth at forward, though not really at PF. Many believe Deni Avdija will go to the Bulls at No. 4 or even Isaac Okoro, the wing out of Auburn. I just don’t see many paths for Toppin to get to the top 4 in this draft, so it’s more likely he falls to No. 5 or further down. That’s how I’d approach betting this line.
