In the only heavyweight bout on the preliminary card for UFC Vegas 14, Don’Tale Mayes will take on Roque Martinez this Saturday live from Las Vegas and available on ESPN+.
The 28-year-old Mayes is entering the octagon as the overwhelming favorite in his second fight of 2020. At UFC on ESPN 8, “Kong” lost to Rodrigo Nascimento Ferreira by submission in Round 2 using a rear-naked choke. Overall, Mayes has a professional fighting record of 7-4.
Mayes will try to knockout Martinez with a punch as he’s a powerful striker. He averages 4.19 strikes per minute with a 45 percent striking accuracy. However, he also takes a lot of strikes in return, absorbing 4.64 per minute.
As for Martinez, he is walking into the UFC APEX as the underdog with a professional fighting record of 15-6-2. The 29-year-old from Guam just made his debut in September at UFC Fight Night 177, where Alexander Romanov defeated him in Round 2 by an arm-triangle choke.
Before taking his talents to UFC, Martinez competed at Rizin FF, Deep, Rizin World Fighting Grand Prix 2017, TFC, PXC, and Top FC.
