This week the 5-1 Appalachian State Mountaineers look to stay in the conference title race as they take on the 3-3 Georgia State Panthers on Saturday afternoon.
Appalachian State has beat most opponents with relative ease so far this season, aside from one slip-up against an undefeated Marshall squad. The offense has been outstanding, particularly its ground game, with the Mountaineers hitting close to 300 yards per game rushing alone. The passing game is under 200 yards per game, but why would you pass when you can just run over everybody? App State might have to rely on QB Zac Thomas more than usual this week, because the Georgia State defense is easily attacked through the air, but pretty stout in the run game.
Georgia State’s offense can hang with any in the Sun Belt. The Panthers average close to 37 points per game, and also eclipse 200 yards rushing on average. Georgia State actually averages slightly more points each week than App State does. Though its defense is far worse. The Mountaineers give up just 17.5 points per game while the Panthers allow over 40.
