How and what to watch for South Alabama vs. No. 25 Louisiana

The Ragin’ Cajuns ground game should be on full display Saturday.

The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns look to improve on its 6-1 record as they welcome the South Alabama Jaguars to Lafayette on Saturday afternoon.

Louisiana has had a very good season so far, its only loss coming to now-#15 Coastal Carolina by just three points. The Ragin’ Cajuns are built on its run game and its defense. The ground attack averages close to 200 yards per game, and is led by running backs Elijah Mitchell and Trey Ragas who have 948 yards and 11 touchdowns between them.

The team’s rush defense is a bit suspect, giving up close to 200 yards per game, but the pass defense more than makes up for it. Through the air opposing QBs are completing just 52% of their passes, and only one QB has had a 250+ yard day against them. They get a lot of turnovers too, with at least two in six of their seven outings.

South Alabama will have a tough time defending as they give up over 150 yards per game on the ground. The Jags offense scores just 22 points per game, and to have a chance in this one it’ll have to have a big day on the ground because of how good Louisiana’s pass defense is. Look for Carlos Davis to get a heavy dose of carries on Saturday.

The Best Bet

The best bet here would be the under. Louisiana’s ground game is good, but they don’t score a lot of points. The Ragin’ Cajuns should win, but it won’t be a offensive showcase.

Pick: Under 53.5
