How and what to watch for No. 9 Miami vs. Virginia Tech

Can VT get back on track after an upset loss last week?

The 6-1 Miami Hurricanes travel to Blacksburg this weekend to take on the 4-3 Virginia Tech Hokies on Saturday afternoon.

Miami has looked fantastic on offense this season outside of its loss to Clemson. Quarterback D’Eriq King has become a legitimate superstar, with 18 total touchdowns and just four interceptions through seven games. The offensive unit scores close 35 points per game, but that jumps up to nearly 40 if you take out the Clemson game. Virginia Tech’s defense is allowing over 30 points each time out, so this should be a lot of points scored in this one.

The Hokies offense is powered by its ground game, averaging close to 300 yards each time out. The rushing attack is led by Khalil Herbert, who already has over 800 yards and six scores on the season. Quarterback Hendon Hooker can hold his own on the ground too, rushing for over 500 yards and eight touchdowns of his own. That will be tough for the Miami defense to stop. They’re a unit that’s giving up close to 150 yards on the ground each game. The Hurricanes defense really struggles against the pass, but the Hokies aerial assault isn’t anything special, averaging under 200 yards each game.

Virginia Tech: (44% of handle, 32% percent of bets)

The Best Bet

I’m not too sure where this line is coming from. VT has a fantastic ground game, but Miami’s rush defense isn’t all that bad. The Hurricanes offense is more two-dimensional than VT’s as well and they should put up numbers.

Pick: Miami +2.5
