Currently the 27th ranked fantasy quarterback, Philip Rivers has a fairly favorable matchup with the Tennessee Titans on Thursday night. This will be a welcome improvement from his Week 9 match-up with the Baltimore Ravens, in which he struggled to muster up 227 yards on 23 of 43 passing for zero touchdowns and one interception. Rivers will try to put that misery behind him and improve in Week 10. Will he improve enough to earn a spot in your starting line-up? We break down the fantasy analysis below.
Fantasy Football analysis: Colts QB Philip Rivers
Rivers had two 20+ point performances prior to his disappointing Week 9 outing, but his 13.7 point average on the season doesn’t instill much confidence in fantasy owners who are likely searching for a bye week fill in. There are a few things that are working in Rivers favor, including the fact that the Titans have allowed an average of 19.8 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks this season. They have also allowed 19 touchdowns to opponents on the season. Big-bodied wide receiver, Michael Pittman, recently returned to action showing promise, and T.Y. Hilton appears to be on track to play on Thursday, which would give Rivers more reliable targets.
The Colts will also likely need to score lots of points to keep up with a Titans offense averaging 29 points per game. Also of note, Jadaveon Clowney, Dane Cruikshank, and Chris Milton were all DNPs on Monday. If they were Thursday’s game, Rivers value would receive a slight bump. Even with all of this upside, there is still likely a better option out there at QB this week, as Rivers has failed to impress in favorable matchups in other games earlier this season. Rivers is nothing more than a low-end QB2 to be started only as a desperation bye week fill in.
