Friday PM update: Devonta Freeman will go on I.R., per Ian Rapoport.
Friday update: Devonta Freeman didn’t practice on Friday after tweaking his ankle in practice on Thursday, per Jordan Raanan. He is most-likely out this week. Wayne Gallman will get the lead role again while Alfred Morris could be activated to back Gallman up again.
Thursday update: Devonta Freeman left the practice field on Thursday with a trainer, per Dan Duggan. Freeman could again get a limited practice designation, but this is a sign that he will be out again this week. Wayne Gallman would be the fantasy play if that happens.
The New York Giants returned to practice on Wednesday to open Week 10, and they’re hoping for some progress with Devonta Freeman. The running back was announced as limited at the first practice of the week, per Zack Rosenblatt.
Freeman did not play last week, but showed progress in practice. He was a DNP on Wednesday and then limited on Thursday and Friday. This Week 10 limited designation doesn’t mean he’ll play on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, but it at least indicates he has not had a setback. Last week, Freeman was ruled out on Friday. The team has two more days of practice to see if that gets upgraded.
It is worth noting the Giants have a bye in Week 11. If they want to ensure Freeman is truly ready to return, they might sit him one more week to be safe. Wayne Gallman would get the start in his place if that happened, while Alfred Morris likely earned some more work last week. Gallman had 14 carries for 68 yards and a touchdown, while Morris had nine carries for 67 yards.
