Shanahan: Raheem Mostert will not play in Week 10, hope is for Week 12 after bye

The 49ers hope to get Raheem Mostert back sooner than later, but it will not happen in Week 10, according to Kyle Shanahan.

Wednesday roster update: Head coach Kyle Shanahan told the media Mostert will not play this week, but the hope is Mostert and Tevin Coleman can return in Week 12, per Matt Barrows. The 49ers promoted running back Austin Walter to the 53-man roster.

The San Francisco 49ers running back Raheem Mostert is eligible to return from injured reserve this week, but has yet to be designated to return. The most recent reports have the team hopeful Mostert can return this week, per the San Francisco Chronicle’s Eric Branch.

Mostert was placed on I.R. after injuring his ankle in Week 6 against the Los Angeles Rams. He was diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain. He was playing great, as he had 453 total yards and two touchdowns through four games.

The 49ers have had more than their share of injuries this season and the running backs room has been no exception, as Tevin Coleman and Jeff Wilson have also missed time this season. Jerick McKinnon led the way last week while Ja’Mycal Hasty was the lead back the week before. If Mostert can’t return this week, we’ll see those two split time again in Week 10 when they face the Patriots.
