Raiders-Browns point total comes down considerably due to wind in weather forecast

The wind is likely to slow down Sunday’s Raiders-Browns game. We break down what it means for betting the point total.

The Cleveland Browns are hosting the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 8, and it could turn into a ground-focused game. Both teams have strong ground games, but the weather forecast is likely to force both teams to cut down on their passing attacks.

Both teams could still try and be aggressive, but oddsmakers think the weather will slow this game down. DraftKings Sportsbook opened the point total at 55.5, but as of game day morning, that number has come down to 48.

The National Weather Service forecast projects wins of 25 to 29 miles per hour, and expects gusts as high as 43 mph. There’s an 80 percent chance of rain and by the end of the game the temperature could be in the high 30s.

There’s been plenty of talk about Derek Carr’s performance in cold weather, but the wind is the real concern in this game. Rain and cold weather can slow things down to some degree, but wind is what oddsmakers factor in to a greater degree. Wind can significantly throw off passing games. Both teams have strong ground games, but the very nature of rushing vs. passing is going to result in lower scores. When you’ve got Josh Jacobs on one side and Kareem Hunt on the other, it makes sense to lean into it.

If you got the under early in the week, you’re in good shape. If you’re looking at the under now, you might have missed the boat.
