The Los Angeles Chargers are set to face off against the New Orleans Saints in a Monday Night Football matchup to kick off Week 5, and they could be without one of their starting receivers. Mike Williams did not practice on Thursday and is in danger of missing a second straight game.
Williams is dealing with a hamstring injury and sat out against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3. While Justin Herbert was able to throw for 290 yards and three scores against the Bucs, Kareem Allen was the only wideout who was targeted more than four times. Herbert was resourceful and threw touchdown passes to Jaylen Guyton, Tyron Johnson, and Donald Parham.
Williams has fallen off since he caught four passes for 69 yards on nine targets in Week 1. While he hasn’t been very productive lately, his 6’4” frame and ability to make contested catches makes him an optimal deep threat and red zone target. If Williams doesn’t play, Allen will continue to be a target monster. He’s totaled at least 10 targets in three straight games.
