What to do with Philip Rivers in Week 4 fantasy football

You can probably do better than the Colts QB this week.

Philip Rivers has been an improvement for the Indianapolis Colts this season, but from a fantasy perspective, he’s not done much to be anything more than a fringe starting option in most weeks. Will that change this week against the Bears?

Fantasy Football analysis: Colts QB Philip Rivers

Rivers has only thrown three touchdowns this season; he has the same number of picks. And his 794 yards rank 12th. One problem has been the Colts’ schedule so far. In their last two games against the Vikings and Jets, Indianapolis had things well enough in hand to sit their starters in the fourth quarter and lean on the running game.

You have to go back to Week 1 to see Rivers throwing the ball in a competitive game, which what they’ll face this week against the Bears. In the season opener against the Jaguars, Rivers had one touchdown and two interceptions. He’ll have to throw the ball plenty to keep pace with the undefeated Bears this week, but Chicago’s done a good job of limiting the damage from opposing quarterbacks. Last week, Matt Ryan, who’s been tearing it up for fantasy teams this season, had just one touchdown to go with a pick and 238 yards.

I don’t know that Rivers is going to do too much better. He might be able to get a pair of scores in this one, but that’s likely to be somewhat diminished by the fact that Chicago has an interception against every team they’ve played this season.

Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation

Sit Philip Rivers.
