How and what to watch for LSU vs. Auburn

LSU won the last three games of this series. Is this the year Auburn can come out on top?

In a rare matchup in which neither team is ranked, the LSU Tigers are set to head on the road to play the Auburn Tigers on Saturday afternoon.

LSU enters with a 2-2 record, coming off a 52-24 victory over South Carolina on Saturday. With Myles Brennan sidelined with an injury, freshman TJ Finley stepped in and played well, completing 17 of 21 passes for 265 yards and two touchdowns. He also threw an interception and rushed for a score with 24 yards on eight carries. Sophomore running back Tyrion Davids-Price rushed for 135 yards on 22 carries with one touchdown. Terrace Marshall Jr. caught two touchdown passes and finished with six receptions for 88 yards.

Auburn has a 3-2 record so far in 2020 and is coming off a dramatic 35-28 road victory over Ole Miss last week. The Tigers scored with a little more than a minute left on a 58-yard touchdown reception for Seth Williams, and the two-point conversion gave Auburn a seven-point lead it kept. Williams finished with 150 yards on eight receptions. Bo Nix completed 23 of 30 passes for 238 yards and a touchdown. Tank Bigsby had another sensational day on the ground, rushing 24 times for 129 yards and two touchdowns.

The Best Bet

Auburn is having a very Auburn year. You can’t explain the strange things we see from Gus Malzahn on a week to week basis, but it’s dangerously close to being a 1-4 team if two calls went the opposite way as they should have. The luck runs out on Saturday.

LSU’s defense is an issue, but Bo Nix struggles mightily in big games to the extent that this can be considered a big game. Whoever lines up at quarterback for LSU will earn a road victory.

Pick: LSU -2
