How and what to watch for No. 16 Kansas State vs. West Virginia

The 4-1 No. 16 Kansas State Wildcats go on a trip to Morgantown to face the 3-2 West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday afternoon in a Big 12 battle.

Kansas State is undefeated so far in Big 12 action, and haven’t lost since its opening week against Arkansas State. The Wildcats have had some pretty impressive wins as well, taking down then-No.3 Oklahoma on the road, and have beaten two of their last three opponents by at least two scores. Kansas State is built behind its defense more than most teams in the conference, with 10 takeaways on the season. They’ve been able to set up short fields for the offense, or just scoring themselves in some instances. The team’s offensive numbers are OK, with an average of 367 yards per game, 238 through the air and 129 on the ground. The team holds opponents to an average of 23.8 points per game, but give up over 425 yards on average. Without the turnovers though, this team would be a lot worse off than they are.

West Virginia’s defense is far more stingy than K-State, giving up just 261 yards per game and holds opposing offenses to just 21 points on average. The offense also puts up better numbers behind quarterback Jarret Doege, who has nearly 1400 yards and nine touchdowns. Running back Leddie Brown also averages close to six yards per carry and has seven scores of his own. Though they have turned the ball over eight times so far in 2020, half of those came in one game. Kansas State will need multiple takeaways if they want to stay in the top 25.
