Everything you need to know for the 2020 Preakness Stakes

The Preakness Stakes is the final race of the 2020 Triple Crown due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We break down how to watch on TV and via live online stream, odds to win, and post positions.

RESULTS: Swiss Skydiver won the Preakness by a nose over Authentic. Here are the full results and payouts.

The final race of the 2020 Triple Crown horse racing season is on Saturday, October 3rd for the 145th running of the Preakness Stakes. The race gets underway at approximately 5:45 p.m. ET, and will be the first time the Preakness serves as the last Triple Crown race of the year. The race will air on NBC live from Pimlico in Baltimore, and be live streamed on

The Triple Crown normally begins in early May with the Kentucky Derby, but the Covid-19 pandemic has thrown the schedule for a loop. The Belmont Stakes was bumped into late June, the Kentucky Derby was in September, and the normally late May Preakness was moved to the first weekend in October.

The race will also provide a “Win and You’re In” berth in the 2020 Breeders’ Cup Classic, but there will be no fans in attendance at Pimlico this year. Unlike the Belmont, which was shortened due to the horses not having run as often in the buildup, the Preakness will go its normal 1 & 3/16 miles, or 9.5 furlongs.

Kentucky Derby winner Authentic will be the favorite, as the connections for Belmont Stakes winner Tiz The Law have decided he won’t run in the final leg of the biggest series in horse racing.

Authentic showed great closing speed on the outside at Churchill Downs, and that’s why we don’t think he’ll go off with the price the Morning Line projects. Keep an eye out for Art Collector as well, who passed on the first two Triple Crown races due to injury, but would have been with the favorites on the board if he ran after winning the Ellis Park Derby and the Blue Grass Stakes.
