Report: Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew has multiple fractures, strained ligament in right thumb

Minshew has been facing criticism in recent weeks.

There have been recent rumblings about a potential quarterback change in Jacksonville, and an injury could provide the Jaguars with an excuse to make a move as they continue struggling. Gardner Minshew has been dealing with discomfort in his right thumb since October 11th and Adam Schefter is reporting he has multiple fractures and a strained ligament.

The Jaguars are on a bye this week, so we won’t see any change for the time being. It is unclear for the time being whether or not Minshew will be able to start in Week 9 when Jacksonville hosts the Houston Texans, per Schefter.

Minshew’s backup is Mike Glennon, and 2020 sixth round pick Jake Luton is the third string QB. Jacksonville returns to practice early next week, but does not have to release its first injury report of Week 9 until Wednesday. Doug Marrone will meet with the media before then, so we might get a better handle on this as soon as Monday.
