Friday update: The Saints have ruled out both Michael Thomas and Marquez Callaway for Week 8.

Thursday PM update: Michael Thomas returned to practice on Thursday, per Nick Underhill. His status is unclear for Week 8, but this is a positive step.

The New Orleans Saints remain shorthanded at the wide receiver position as they begin Week 8 preparations. Michael Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders, and Marquez Callaway were all unable to practice on Wednesday, according to reporter Amie Just, as the team prepares to face the Chicago Bears.

Sanders is on the Covid-19 injured reserve list and there is no timeline for his return. He tested positive for the virus and was symptomatic. He will likely miss at least one more game depending on how he recovers. Thomas injured his hamstring last week while recovering from an ankle injury and missed Week 7. Callaway is a new addition to the injury report after catching eight passes for 75 yards last week.

Callaway led the team in targets and was joined by Alvin Kamara with eight receptions. Tre’Quan Smith and Deonte Harris were the next two wide receivers on the list. They each caught four passes, with Smith hauling in 54 yards and Harris hauling in 46 yards and a touchdown.
