The Los Angeles Clippers are looking to get back at the Los Angeles Lakers rather quickly after the Lake Show won the title in 2020. The Clippers are interested in signing unrestricted free agent PG Rajon Rondo, per Marc Stein of The New York Times. Rondo can become a free agent if he decides to opt out of his player option for 2020-21. Chances are Rondo earned himself some more money, so it’s likely he’ll hit the open market again.
Rondo is fresh off helping the Lakers win the championship in 2019-20, his second NBA title in his career. The veteran PG returned during the second round vs. the Houston Rockets and made an immediate impact, coming off the bench to spark the offense. Rondo is one of the smartest players in the NBA and it’s not surprising that the Clippers would like to tilt the scale in their favor a bit heading into next season.
The Clips relied heavily on Patrick Beverley at PG and didn’t really have much help behind him. Lou Williams will still come off the bench, but is more of a combo guard who will use the “score first” mentality. Rondo could be paired with Kawhi Leonard and Paul George to form a very tough defensive front. It was clear Pat Bev lost a step or two during the playoffs this past season, mostly due to injuries.
