There are a few tight ends widely available that either have good matchups heading into Week 8, or had successful Week 7 performances, or could benefit from an injury. With that in mind, here are six tight ends with under 50% ownership in traditional fantasy football leagues that managers can consider picking up for Week 8.
Week 8 Byes: Washington Football Team, Arizona Cardinals, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars
Richard Rogers, Eagles (5 percent)
Next up — DAL, BYE, @NYG, @CLE, SEA
It appears like Rogers is actually a quality fill-in for Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert. He caught six passes for 85 yards in his Week 7 start. He was targeted eight times by Carson Wentz so expect him to be a constant in the passing attack moving forward. DeSean Jackson’s ankle injury could lead to more opportunities for the tight end.
Trey Burton, Colts (20 percent)
Next up — @DET, BAL, @TEN, GB, TEN
Mo Alie-Cox is recovering from a knee injury so Burton could follow up his impressive Week 7 performance. Burton caught four of his five targets for 58 yards and a score while also rushing for a touchdown. Jack Doyle sits atop the depth chart but isn’t a priority in the passing game. Philip Rivers loves to target tight ends in the red zone.
Harrison Bryant, Browns (1 percent)
Next up — LV, BYE, HOU, PHI, @JAX
Austin Hooper is dealing with appendicitis and Bryant was a star in Cleveland’s Week 7 game against the Bengals. The rookie caught four passes for 56 yards and two scores with Hooper out and could continue to be a premier red zone moving forward. He’ll have to compete with David Njoku but could be worth a flier in deeper leagues.
Logan Thomas, Washington (26 percent)
Next up — BYE, NYG, @DET, CIN, @DAL
Thomas is second to Terry McLaurin in targets and receiving yards but has a team-high three touchdown receptions. Washington’s passing attack is far from explosive but Thomas is a priority through the air.
Irv Smith Jr., Vikings (7 percent)
Next up — @GB, DET, @CHI, DAL, CAR
Smith is picking up steam and could knock Rudolph down a notch on the tight end depth chart in the near future. The second-year tight end caught two passes for 14 yards in his first two games but has racked up eight catches for 119 yards in his last two games. He‘s far from being an elite fantasy tight end but has been more productive than Rudolph so far this season.
Eric Ebron, Steelers (46 percent)
Next up — @BAL, @DAL, CIN, @JAX, BAL
Ebron is outside the top 20 in PPR formats but ranks third on the Steelers in targets and receiving yards. He’s been targeted more than three times as often as Vance McDonald, so the exposure is there for him to have a breakout performance.
