How to watch UTEP vs. Charlotte and how the public is betting the game

Despite UTEP’s 3-2 record and strong defense, Charlotte enters Saturday’s matchup as the favorite.

Conference USA returns to action Saturday with a cross-divisional tilt between the 3-2 UTEP Miners and the 1-2 Charlotte 49ers. The game will kick off Saturday, Oct. 24 at noon ET with ESPN+ carrying the game for online streaming only.

While a Conference USA game will likely go overshadowed by the heavily-anticipated return of Big Ten football this weekend, the matchup of UTEP and Charlotte offers plenty of intrigue in its own right. The Miners feature Gavin Hardison, their best quarterback in many years and only the third sophomore in the program’s history to record over 1,000 passing yards through five games. The overall performance of the offense varies wildly week to week, providing plenty of unpredictability.

Meanwhile the 49ers feature a stellar ground attack headlined by senior running back Aaron McAllister, who piled up 140 yards and a touchdown on just 12 carries a week ago. That offense helped push Charlotte to a 49-21 victory over North Texas, easily covering the spread and hitting the over in the process.

The game could pivot on UTEP’s defense which, outside of an expected shellacking from Texas on Sept. 12, has allowed just 13.5 points per game so far this season. That factor, combined with Charlotte’s offense relying so heavily on McAllister and the running game, looks likely to curtail scoring on Saturday.

In terms of total points, 85% of the bets have come on the over of 48 points but 81% of the handle has gone to the under. The point spread, set at Charlotte -15, has 69% of the bets as well as 73% of the handle going for the 49ers. As for the moneyline, 64% of the handle and 91% of the bets have gone for Charlotte as well.
