How and what to watch for Virginia vs. No. 11 Miami

The No. 11 Canes will host a sputtering Cavaliers squad under the lights.

The No. 11 Miami Hurricanes didn’t fall into the trap of letting a highly-ranked opponent psychologically beat them twice, bouncing back from their loss at Clemson with a 31-19 victory over Pitt last Saturday.

While the Canes couldn’t really get much of a run-game going, transfer quarterback D’Eriq King was able to make things happen through the air with 222 passing yards to six different receivers and four touchdowns.

Having gotten back on track following the loss to the top-ranked Tigers, Miami will welcome to Hard Rock Stadium this Saturday night a sputtering Virginia Cavaliers team that dropped its third-straight game last week in a 40-23 loss at Wake Forest.

The Hoos were pedestrian on offense without starting quarterback Brennan Armstrong and gave up a handful of explosive plays to the Demon Deacons.

Game Time/TV Channel/Streaming

Point Spread, Totals, Odds, Trends

Point spread: Virginia at Miami (-12.5)
Point Total: O/U 58.5
Money line: Virginia (+340), Miami (-455)

  • Each of Virginia’s last 10 games have gone OVER the total points line.
  • Miami has failed to cover the spread in each of its last seven October home games against non-AP-ranked teams.
  • Virginia is 8-10-1 against the spread as a road underdog under Bronco Mendenhall.

The Best Bet

Under the lights of Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday, you’ll have two teams heading in opposite directions. UVA could be without Armstrong once again under center, opening the door for Quincy Roche and the defense to wreak havoc. On the flipside, expect King and the Canes offense to take advantage of a defense prone to giving up the big play. Miami wins and covers comfortably.

Pick: Miami -12.5
