In a heavyweight bout on the main card of UFC 254, #7 Alexander Volkov will take on #10 Walt Harris live from Fight Island in Abu Dhabi this Saturday and also available pay-per-view via ESPN+.
Having fought in two UFC Fight Night main events, Volkov’s average fight time is actually above 15 minutes. His only two UFC losses have come to #2 Curtis Blaydes and #4 Derrick Lewis, where he was out-struck both times by more than 30 blows. Blades landed 14 takedowns as well.
Volkov is more of a striker, averaging 4.65 significant strikes per minute and landing 58 percent of his attempts. He absorbs just 2.53, so he’s a solid striker and good defender. With a 31-8 MMA record, 5-2 in the UFC, he enters with 20 knockouts on his resume.
That’s been the bread and butter for the 6-foot-7 fighter throughout his career. His opponent, Walt “The Big Ticket” Harris, has a similar story. At 6-foot-5, Harris averages 2.97 significant strikes per minute, connecting on just 39 percent of his strikes. 6-7 with a no contest at the UFC level and 13-8 in his career, the 37-year-old American is coming off a mid-May loss to #5 Alistair Overeem.
He’ll open as the slight underdog, potentially one of the most favorable lines of the main event for bettors. Neither fighter is overly likely to take this bout to the ground, so it may go the full 15 minutes.
