The Washington Football Team might be 1-4, but they’re only one game out of first place in the NFC East as we head into Week 6. Last week, Washington lost in disappointing fashion to the Los Angeles Rams 30-10, with the Washington running backs combining to only put up only 100 total yards from scrimmage.

This week, the duo of J.D. McKissic and Antonio Gibson will look to rebound against a struggling NFC East rival, the New York Giants.

Fantasy Football analysis: Washington RBs Antonio Gibson, J.D. McKissic

The Giants are a weak removed from allowing Ezekiel Elliott of the Dallas Cowboys to rush for 91 yards and two touchdowns, so there is reason for optimism for McKissic/Gibson. The concern, though, becomes: who do we start? McKissic or Gibson?

The future of the Washington running back position is likely with Antonio Gibson, a third round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. But it’s actually J.D. McKissic who is the more “traditional” running back between the tackles, with Gibson playing primarily as a wide receiver for the University of Memphis.

But what should be concerning for Gibson owners in 2020 was McKissic’s involvement in the passing game last week, the supposed strength of Gibson’s game. McKissic led Washington in targets last week, and if that continues again, he presents an intriguing amount of upside in a game that could wind up a slugfest.

Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation

Start McKissic as a low-end flex. Bench Gibson, but continue to monitor.
