How and what to watch for No. 11 Texas A&M vs. Mississippi State

These two teams have already proved that anything can happen on any given Saturday.

Two teams that are trending on opposite directions as the Texas A&M Aggies take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Saturday live from Davis Wade Stadium. TAMU knocked off then-No. 3 Florida in thrilling fashion, while Mississippi State got dominated by Kentucky last week.

The Mike Leach experience has already been a wild ride in Starkville. KJ Costello threw for over 600 yards and five touchdowns in a Week 1 upset of LSU. But last week, the Bulldogs threw six interceptions and didn’t score a single offensive point against Kentucky.

Lucky for Mississippi State, the Aggies defense gives up a lot of yards through the air. Through three weeks they’ve conceded nine passing touchdowns and nearly 900 yards, letting opposing QBs compete over 70% of their passes. Their rushing defense is quite good, but the king of the Air Raid won’t waste any time trying to sling the ball up and down the field. After all, MSU only has 54 rushing attempts through three games and 190 throws.

This game is going to come down to if Costello can limit mistakes or not. If he plays anything near how he did last week, it won’t be a pretty sight in Starkville.

Game Time/TV Channel/Streaming

Point Spread, Totals, Odds, Trends

Point spread: Texas A&M (-5) at Mississippi State
Point Total: 55.5
Money line: Texas A&M (-205), Mississippi State (+163)

  • The over has hit in five of the teams last 10 matchups

  • Texas A&M is 1-2 ATS in the teams last three meetings

The Best Bet

Texas A&M struggles against the pass and that’s basically all Mississippi State does. The Aggies scored 41 last week against the Gators, and the defense they’ll be going up against isn’t as good as them.

Pick: Over 55.5
