How and what to watch for Duke vs. NC State

This is the first matchup between the two nearby conference foes since 2013.

NCAA Football: North Carolina State at Pittsburgh Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

After three straight road trips, the NC State Wolfpack finally returns to Carter-Finley Stadium this Saturday when hosting the Duke Blue Devils in Raleigh.

Following their 45-24 loss at Virginia Tech on Sep. 26, the Wolfpack have rattled off back-to-back road victories, the latest being a 38-21 win at Virginia last Saturday. The NCSU defense stepped up by forcing three interceptions and stifling UVA rushers to just 2.8 yards per rush.

Meanwhile the Blue Devils finally got off the mat with their first victory of the season last Saturday in a 38-24 win. Quarterback Chase Brice went 22-of-38 for 270 yards and two touchdowns, while running backs Deaon Jackson and Mataeo Durant combined for 332 rushing yards and two scores. The Blue Devil defense also limited Syracuse to just 5.5 yards per play on just 52 plays, forcing several three-and-outs because lol, someone at ‘Cuse decided that hiring Sterlin Gilbert at offensive coordinator would be a good idea.

Game Time/TV Channel/Streaming

You can watch this game Saturday, October 17th at 3:30 p.m. ET on ACC Network Extra, or you can stream it via the ESPN app with a cable or streaming login.

Point Spread, Totals, Odds, Trends

Point spread: Duke at NC State (-4.5)
Point Total: O/U 59
Money line: Duke (+155), NC State (-195)

  • The over has hit in all four of NC State’s games this year.
  • Duke is 40-26-1 against the spread under David Cutcliffe after a win.
  • Duke has failed to cover the spread in each of its last four day games against teams from North Carolina.

The Best Bet

Oddly enough, these two teams haven’t played each other since 2013 despite being roughly 30 minutes apart. Abolish divisions.

The Pack have been rolling since the Virginia Tech game and Duke’s victory over Syracuse may have been an anomaly and a bigger indictment on the status of the Orange than anything else.

Pick: NC State (-4.5)
