A once well-regarded phenom vs. an up-and-coming prospect is the bout when Thomas Almeida and Jonathan Martinez meet in a featherweight bout at UFC Fight Island 6 on October 17th. Martinez takes this fight on short notice, replacing Alejandro Perez in this contest.

Thiago Almeida was once 19-0, but enters coming in 1-3 in his last four. His losses include getting knocked out by Cody Garbrandt. Almeida will look to show he can still be a top fighter, but will have his hands full with a short notice and new opponent. Thiago is your typical ground game guru who even after a near three-year lay off will look to win by his takedowns.

Martinez has won three of four and comes in with all the confidence, and will feel great about beating a former title contender. Avoiding takedowns early will be key for him, and if he can make it a longer fight I like his chances. This is a lopsided fight in the splits in terms of action, and could go the distance.

Here are the betting splits at DraftKings Sportsbook for Thomas Almeida vs. Jonathan Martinez at UFC Fight Island 6 on October 17th.

Thomas Almeida: -139 (24% of action, 51% of bets)
