Sunday AM update: The injury report should not impact Gurley’s value this week. He has quietly reinvigorated himself, with double digit fantasy performances in four of his five starts this season. He’s coming off his best game of the season, wit 121 rushing yards, 29 receiving yards, and a rushing score against the Panthers. The Vikings are favored in this game, but expect plenty of Gurley.
In Week 5, Todd Gurley received the magical elixir for any running back who is looking to improve his stats: He faced the Carolina Panthers. Glimpses of MVP-level Gurley could be seen inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium as he ripped off 121 yards on just 14 carries. He also caught four passes, equaling his season-long total through four games, and scored for a fifth time. The Minnesota Vikings shouldn’t be as inviting in Week 6.
Fantasy Football analysis: Falcons RB Todd Gurley
Gurley is playing only about 50% of the snaps and we know he is past his prime, but through five weeks, he is a top-10 fantasy back. The touchdowns are the top reason why, but that’s part of the package with Gurley, who has scored 57 times in his last 49 games. He saw five targets against the Panthers after seeing just eight in his previous four games. It would be nice to see that remain a staple of Gurley’s weekly output under interim head coach Raheem Morris. The Vikings’ run defense, while not as abysmal as the Panthers’, is by no means indomitable. Minnesota has given up more than 100 yards on the ground to Derrick Henry and Jonathan Taylor already.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Even though Gurley’s fantasy value is really propped up by touchdowns, his ability to consistently break the plane makes him a strong RB2 this week.
