In a light heavyweight bout on the preliminary card of UFC Fight Island 6, Gadzhimurad Antigulov will take on Maxim Grishin live from Fight Island in Abu Dhabi and available on ESPN+.
Grishin, 36, will enter the octagon as the favorite. The veteran has an MMA record of 30-8-2., but the 6-foot-3 fighter has just one appearance in the UFC, a unanimous decision loss to Marcin Tybura. There was only 42 significant strikes thrown in that bout, as Tybura’s three takedowns controlled most of the time.
Grishin averages just 1.2 significant strikes per minute, but does land 56 percent of his strikes. Grishin has half of his MMA victories via knockout, and would prefer to be upright striking.
That’s the exact opposite of how Antigulov will want to compete. With a 20-7 MMA record, he has 15 submission victories, but a 2-3 UFC record. Antigulov has lost his last three bouts, and all five of his promotion fights have ended in the first round. Averaging 8.4 takedowns per 15 minutes and only 2.89 significant strikes per minute, Antigulov is going to try and get Grishin on the ground.
With Antigulov’s 2:09 average fight time, there’s a very small chance this fight goes the distance.
