Russell Wilson has lead the Seahawks to a 5-0 record to kick off the 2020 NFL season and has established himself as the frontrunner for MVP. He’s the odds-on favorite on DraftKings Sportsbook, and it’ll take some impressive performances from the quarterbacks behind him to catch up. Several quarterbacks have a significant percentage of the handle on MVP wagers. Let’s go over who the public thinks has a shot at challenging Wilson.
Wilson (+100) leads all quarterbacks with 16 percent of the handle on MVP wagers. He leads the league in passing touchdowns with 19 and is on pace to break Peyton Manning’s single-season record of 55. While Aaron Rodgers (+300) has the second best odds, only Kyler Murray (+4000) can match Wilson when it comes to percentage of total bets (11). Murray is second to Wilson in handle with 12 percent. Murray’s interception numbers are concerning, but he’s rushed for 296 yards and four touchdowns and has a great connection with DeAndre Hopkins.
Tom Brady (+3300) ranks third in handle percentage (8). He ranks fifth in passing touchdowns with 12 despite dealing with injuries to his star receivers nearly every week. If the Buccaneers can get Mike Evans and Chris Godwin completely healthy, Brady could put up some big numbers and improve his odds.
Patrick Mahomes (+600) and Josh Allen (+1100) both command 7 percent of the handle and 7 percent of the total bets. Both quarterbacks lost their first games of the season in Week 5. Mahomes has looked great with 13 touchdowns passes and a single interceptions, but hasn’t put up the numbers people thought he would with such dynamic weapons at his disposal. Allen has exceeded expectations all year but came crashing back down to Earth when the Bills were blown out by the Titans on Tuesday. He can rebound and has one of the easiest schedules in the NFL ahead of him.
Wilson is such a heavy favorite that DraftKings Sportsbook has a special bet available that pits his odds (+100) against the field (-155). I’d bank on Wilson, as he’s arguably having the best season and was easily considered one of the NFL’s top five players entering 2020.
