Thursday update: Garoppolo got another full workout in on Thursday and is on track to play this weekend against the Rams.
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan say that Jimmy Garoppolo will get a full practice in on Wednesday, per The Athletic’s Matt Barrows. Shanahan will evaluate the Garoppolo afterward, according to Barrows.
Garoppolo returned as the starter last week after missing two games with an ankle injury. The game didn’t go well, as Garoppolo was picked off twice and couldn’t get anything going against the Dolphins. He struggled with accuracy and arm strength and Shanahan eventually pulled him for C.J. Beathard. The 49ers head coach told FOX the change was made for Garoppolo’s own protection.
The 49ers face the Rams on Sunday Night Football and that presents a serious challenge along the defensive front. If Garoppolo is still slowed by his ankle, the 49ers could still decide to sit him to get a little closer to 100 percent. Beathard remains his backup while Nick Mullens has been demoted to third string quarterback.
