Final injury report
Melvin Gordon is the biggest question mark heading into Week 6 Sunday. He was cited for a DUI during the week and sent home from Wednesday practice. He returned to practice on Thursday but then sat out Friday’s practice due to an illness that is not Covid-19. It’s unclear whether or not he’ll play.
Out: Dalvin Cook (groin)
Questionable: Jordan Wilkins (calf), Melvin Gordon (illness), Leonard Fournette (ankle), Jeffery Wilson (calf)
Friday AM update
Dalvin Cook remained a DNP on Thursday, wile Kareem Hunt remained limited. Melvin Gordon returned to practice and barring any last minute discipline, seems on track to play this weekend. Adrian Peterson was added to Thursday’s report with an illness that does not seem to be Covid-19.
Speaking of Covid-19, Friday morning saw the Indianapolis Colts close their facility due to multiple positive tests in the organization. They are working to confirm those positives and figure out next steps. We’ll keep an eye out for more information on the game status and potential impact on Jonathan Taylor, Nyheim Hines, and Joe Mixon this weekend.
Wednesday injury report
NFL teams returned to practice on Wednesday to begin on-field preparations for Week 6. The big news at the running back position was Melvin Gordon getting cited for a DUI. His status for Sunday is unclear, but will be something to track all week. If he is unable to play, Phillip Lindsay would get the start in his place. In terms of actual injury, the biggest issue is Dalvin Cook. He injured his groin in Week 5 and Alexander Mattison replaced him in the lineup. The Vikings having a Week 7 bye and given how well Mattison performed against Seattle, Cook might get some extra rest time.
DNP: Dalvin Cook (groin), Melvin Gordon (DUI citation), Darrynton Evans (hamstring)
Limited: Giovani Bernard (groin), Jordan Wilkins (calf), Kareem Hunt (thigh), Leonard Fournette (ankle), LeSean McCoy (ankle), Antonio Gibson (toe)
Full: Phillip Lindsay (foot)
Week 5 didn’t have any four touchdown games like the receivers had, but fantasy points were accumulated. In PPR, Mike Davis was your No. 1 back, as he continues to show up well in relief of Christian McCaffrey. And with 30 receptions through four games, he’s going to be a PPR stud until McCaffrey returns.
David Montgomery hasn’t had much luck on the ground this season, but finally got a goal line look last week to get his first rushing touchdown. The better news is that he caught seven passes, giving him a nice boost in PPR and with Tarik Cohen gone, it looks like his receiving work will continue. Plus, this week he gets a bad Panthers run defense.
Injury news
Dalvin Cook has an abdominal strain and is likely out this week against the Falcons. That should give Alexander Mattison enough work to be a must start in an offense that loves running the ball.
Phillip Lindsay will return against the Patriots, likely cutting into Melvin Gordon’s fantasy upside.
Christian McCaffrey could come off I.R. this week, but recent reports make it seem like a long shot that he will return against the Bears in Week 6.
Bye weeks
Seattle Seahawks, New Orleans Saints, Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers are all on their bye.
We’ll be without Chris Carson, Alvin Kamara, Josh Jacobs, Justin Jackson and Joshua Kelley. Those guys carry a bunch of fantasy points around that we’ll need to replace this week.
Streaming options
Myles Gaskin, Dolphins
Gaskins continues to see a big workload and looks like he’s solidified himself as a RB2 for now. The Jets have allowed the fifth-most PPR points and the second-most touchdowns to running backs this season.
Adrian Peterson, Lions
Peterson isn’t going to put up huge numbers, but he has a good matchup with the Jaguars, who gave up 181 yards and three touchdowns to Joe Mixon and 103 yards to David Johnson over the last two weeks.
