To paraphrase Benjamin Franklin - “There are three things certain in life: death, taxes, and the Atlanta Falcons blowing a lead.”
This week, the Falcons will try to hold on for a win against the division rival Carolina Panthers. The Panthers, unlike the Falcons, are actually coming into the game with a bit of momentum, having won their past two games against the Los Angeles Chargers and Arizona Cardinals.
Fantasy Football analysis: Panthers TE Ian Thomas
On paper, this has the makings of being the Ian Thomas Breakout Game. The Atlanta Falcons are dead last in the NFL at limiting opposing tight ends’ fantasy production in 2020, and Ian Thomas is fresh off the back of finding pay dirt against the Arizona Cardinals.
But then you start to look deeper...
After Greg Olsen left the Panthers to join the Seattle Seahawks, there was a void to fill at tight end, and many in the NFL world expected Ian Thomas to be the player to fill it. Unfortunately for Thomas and his fantasy owners, Ian Thomas has produced a whopping 30 receiving yards in 2020 through four games.
Not 30 yards per game. Not 30 yards last game. That’s 30 yards for the entire season.
Despite Thomas’s first score of the season, and the favorable matchup against the Falcons, it’s probably best to avoid Thomas for the foreseeable future.
