What to do with Mike Gesicki in Week 5 fantasy football

Gesicki has had trouble finding consistency in 2020

Miami Dolphins tight end Mike Gesicki was supposed to have a big season. Just looking at the season stats, you’d think he is. He’s currently the Dolphins second leading pass-catcher and has the most receiving touchdowns on the team.

But look a bit closer and you realize that the overwhelming majority of his production came in one game against the Buffalo Bills.

This week the Dolphins take on the San Francisco 49ers. Will he be able to have another breakout game?

Fantasy Football analysis: Dolphins TE Mike Gesicki

Against Buffalo, Gesicki caught eight passes for 130 yards and a touchdown. In his other three games combined, he’s caught five passes for 60 yards and one touchdown. This week could potentially be his toughest challenge yet.

San Francisco has held tight ends in check all season. That unit hasn’t allowed a touchdown to a tight end all season and has held the position group in check, giving up just 105 yards all season. In fact, the 49ers haven’t allowed more than 23 yards to a tight end all season and held Eagles TE to just nine yards last week.

Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation

Gesicki has had an underwhelming season so far for fantasy owners, and it probably won’t get a whole lot better this week against a very good pass defense. With his slow start, the travel out to the west coast and the tough match up with San Francisco’s pass defense, sit him this week.
