What to do with Tyler Lockett, DK Metcalf in Week 5 fantasy football

Facing a struggling Vikings pass defense, Seahawks wideouts Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf look ready for another explosive performance.

Russell Wilson’s explosive start to the 2020 season has lifted the fantasy outlook for his top receivers, Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf. Sunday’s matchup with a struggling Minnesota Vikings pass defense should do little to temper enthusiasm for those wideouts.

Fantasy Football analysis: Seattle WRs Tyler Lockett, DK Metcalf

Whether because of the Vikings’ young new corners or breakdowns elsewhere on defense, the unit has enjoyed little success slowing down opposing wideouts. In just four weeks, Minnesota has allowed seven touchdowns to that position group alone along with 55 receptions for 816 receiving yards. By any objective measure, the situation is a disaster.

And perhaps no duo of wideouts looks better equipped to exploit the Vikings’ deficiencies than Lockett and Metcalf. Entering Week 5, Lockett leads the Seahawks with 33 targets and four touchdowns. While his targets tend to come closer to the line of scrimmage than his running mate, Lockett converts nearly 79% of them into receptions.

By comparison, Metcalf’s role better resembles that of a home-run hitter. While he converts far fewer of his 28 targets into catches — his catch rate stands just a shade over 57% — he averages more than double his partner in yards per reception (25.2). And if not for Leon Lett’ing away a touchdown two weeks ago against the Dallas Cowboys, Metcalf would tie for the team lead in receiving touchdowns.

As the Seahawks have all season, they will use Lockett as their intermediate, move-the-chains target throughout Sunday’s game against the Vikings with Metcalf gearing up for some deep balls and likely a score.

Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation

Both Lockett and Metcalf should start this week regardless of format.
