James Robinson put together another impressive performance in Week 5 and is developing into a consistent fantasy running back, rewarding fantasy owners who couldn’t have expected this much production. On the other side, fellow Jacksonville Jaguars running back Chris Thompson is seeing his looks diminished.
How will it all play out in Week 5? Here’s a dive into the Jaguars backfield from a fantasy perspective.
Fantasy Football analysis: Jaguars RBs James Robinson, Chris Thompson
On Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals, Robinson rushed for 75 yards on 17 carries. He was the only running back to get any looks rushing the ball. Quarterback Gardner Minshew ran the ball twice, while wide receiver Laviska Shenault Jr. had one carry. In addition, Robinson caught four balls for 32 yards.
Thompson did not receive a single carry and received zero targets on Sunday.
One of the most important factors to be a relevant and productive fantasy running back is volume, and Robinson has that. After seeing 16 carries in the first two games, he rushed the ball 11 times in Week 3 and another 17 times on Sunday. The undrafted rookie is the unquestioned leader in the Jacksonville backfield.
On Sunday, the Jaguars will be matched up with the Houston Texans, which just fired head coach Bill O’Brien. Houston allowed 130 yards and two touchdowns to Dalvin Cook on 27 carries on Sunday.
Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation
Robinson is just outside of being a No. 1 fantasy running back in standard leagues but could get there soon. Thompson should be nowhere near fantasy lineups in Week 5.
