What to do with Mike Davis, Trent Cannon in Week 5 fantasy football

The Panthers will roll with Davis as their No. 1 running back again this week.

The Carolina Panthers should have Christian McCaffrey back in the lineup soon, but not this week against the Atlanta Falcons. Mike Davis took on the bulk of the work in Week 4, with Reggie Bonnafon working behind him. The Panthers placed Bonnafon on IR on Tuesday, which means they’ll once again lean heavily on the admirable fill-in work of Mike Davis with a sprinkle of Trent Cannon.

Fantasy Football analysis: Panthers RBs Mike Davis, Trent Cannon

Davis was on the field for 72 percent of the team’s offensive snaps and rushing 16 times for 84 yards and a touchdown. He also caught five passes for 27 yards. Bonnafon was also effective on his 12 touches, posting 71 scrimmage yards and a score.

The Falcons haven’t been overly generous to opposing running backs, at least not on the ground. Running backs have scored three receiving touchdowns against Atlanta this season, tied for the most in the league, and rolled up a total of 257 receiving yards. Davis’ workload make him a must-start this week in a favorable matchup. Cannon might get a few touches too, but it’s hard to bank on that for fantasy purposes.

Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation

Start Mike Davis. Sit Trent Cannon.
