The Temple Owls will play their first game on Saturday, Oct. 10 against the Navy Midshipmen, who kicked off their season a month ago.

Navy enters with a 1-2 record, with a close win over Tulane and blowout losses to BYU and Air Force. The Midshipmen lost to Air Force 40-7 on Saturday and were held to just 241 yards of offense, averaging just 2.5 yards per rush. Quarterback Tyger Goslin completed 6-15 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown that went 73 yards to wide receiver Myles Fells. Dalen Morris is expected to the starting lineup at quarterback for Navy after missing last week with an undisclosed medical condition.

Temple is going into the 2020 season with second-year head coach Rod Carey. The Owls are coming off an 8-5 season straight up and 8-5 against the spread. The TU offense should be fairly good this season led by quarterback Anthony Russo, who threw for 2,861 yards last season and threw 21 touchdown passes with 12 interceptions. Look for Re’Mahn Davis to have another good season out of the backfield after a freshman season in which he rushed for 936 yards and eight touchdowns.

Temple won the last three games of this series including 24-17 in Annapolis, Maryland in 2018.

The Best Bet

This is a tough one to handicap because Navy already has three games under its belt while Temple is heading out on the field for the first time in 2020. Carey hasn’t faced Navy as a head coach for Temple, but the program appears to do just good enough to cover six of the last seven spreads against Navy. Let’s go with the home favorites in this matchup.

Pick: Temple -3
