LSU Tigers’ feature running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire has been dealing with a hamstring injury, but appears on track to face the Clemson Tigers in the College Football Playoff National Championship game. Head coach Ed Orgeron said Edwards-Helaire felt good and shouldn’t face any limitations next week.
“He felt good,” Orgeron told The Advocate on Thursday. “Obviously we’re not going to scrimmage, so the next time he’s going to go full-tilt is gameday, but I think he’s going to be fine.”
It appears that he’ll get more work than he did in the Tigers’ 63-28 win over Oklahoma last week. He was limited to two carries for 14 yards in that contest, getting rest once it turned into a rout.
Edwards-Helaire has rushed for 1,306 yards and 16 touchdowns this season, providing balance alongside LSU’s dynamic passing attack. LSU could use him against Clemson’s defense, which forked up a measly 10.6 points per contest and 1,380 total rushing yards to opposing offenses this season. If Edwards-Helaire is a full go, LSU will be able to reach its full potential.
